Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D – NV) has asked the FBI to formally investigate the possibility that Russia is trying to manipulate America’s November election. He claimed that the Russian threat “is more extensive than is widely known and may include the intent to falsify official election results.”
This follows reports that a pair of states, Arizona and Illinois, had foreign hackers attempt to infiltrate their voter registration systems and, in one case, actually successfully copied the registration data from the system. Yet the drive to make this an overarching Russian plot started well before that.

During July’s Democratic National Convention, WikiLeaks released a trove of emails obtained from a hacker called Guccifer 2.0. This includes some particularly embarrassing email exchanges, in particular showing that the Democratic National Committee was strongly biased against candidate Bernie Sanders, and in favor of eventual nominee Hillary Clinton.

As a means of avoiding making the content of the emails a story, the DNC quickly shifted the narrative to claims that this was a Russian government hack, and assorted conspiratorial speculation that Russia was secretly in league with the Republican nominee.

The “evidence” of Russia’s involvement in the DNC hack was virtually non-existent, centering on a few IP addresses in the middle of a complex hack that spanned the globe. Yet the story itself gained traction, as one official would misquote reports in the media as “proof” of Russia being behind the plot, and the media could report this quote as the proof itself. Bouncing around in this echo chamber, it quickly became a general consensus.

So when Guccifer 2.0 turned around and hacked the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee bit later, it was already “known” that they were Russia, even though there was no real evidence to that effect. The Democratic Party was getting such traction out of the narrative that they went so far as to preemptively blame Russia for any future links that proved embarrassing, claiming Russia might conceivably make some things up.

The narrative that Russia is doing materially all the hacks in the US right now, or at least the ones that make headlines, is just the latest in an ongoing series of such dubious attributions. Over the past few years, China, North Korea, and Iran have all had their turn as the scapegoat for major hacks, generally with no evidence than there is this time.

So when the FBI says two states voter registrations were hacked, or at least attempted to be hacked, and that foreign hackers might be involved, that’s all anyone, particularly anyone with the D after their name, needs to implicate Russia, and start crying voter fraud.

Sen. Reid claims to need an investigation of all this “evidence” of Russia tampering with the election, but in practice this boils down to everyone simply believing Russia was behind the hacks, and wanting to flesh out that storyline, and the potential electoral benefits it might confer, actual evidence be damned.

Russian Su-34 Bombs Daesh Meeting, Killing Up to 40 Fighters in Syria's Aleppo
Russia's Sukhoi Su-34 Fullback tactical bombers strike ISIS sites in Syria
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Russian airstrikes killed around 40 Daesh jihadists in the Syrian province of Aleppo.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russian airstrikes killed around 40 Daesh jihadist group in the Syrian province of Aleppo, the Russian Defense Ministry said Wednesday.
"On August 30, 2016, a mass gathering of Daesh fighters numbering up to 40 have been killed as a result of the Russian Su-34 bomber’s strike in the Maaratat-Umm Khaush area of Aleppo province," the ministry said.
The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that a second-in-command of the Daesh jihadist group has been killed in an airstrike in the Syrian province of Aleppo.
"Among the killed terrorists confirmed through multiple intelligence channels was Abu Mohammed al-Adnani, better known as ‘official media spokesman’ of the Islamic State international terrorist group," the ministry said in a statement.
Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with government forces loyal to President Bashar Assad fighting numerous opposition factions and extremist groups.
Aleppo has been under siege by militant groups, including Jaish al-Islam, Ahrar ash-Sham and Jabhat Fatah al Sham, formerly known as al-Nusra Front, classified as terrorist organization in Russia. The city has seen intense fighting over the past few months, with the Syrian army and local militia forces managing to encircle large groups of militants in the eastern districts of the city.

Top UK general admits he knew psychotic effects of malaria drug... but still let soldiers take it

Britain's army chief General Dannatt © David Moir
General Sir Richard Dannatt, former head of the British military, concedes he knew first-hand the psychological risks attached to Lariam and refused to take it himself, all the while allowing his troops to take the controversial anti-malarial drug.
In an interview with the BBC on Tuesday, the former general said he had been aware of the effects of Lariam on his own son Bertie, who suffered physical and mental side effects after taking it in Africa.

He became extremely depressed, not the person that he would normally be – a very bubbly, personable sort of individual.
He got very withdrawn, and we got very worried about him,” the ex-general said.

This compelled him to refuse to take it while serving in the military, instead opting for ananything but that approach due to what he recognized as the drug’s pretty catastrophic potential.

Because Bertie had that effect, whenever I’ve needed anti-malarial drugs, I’ve said, ‘I’ll take anything, but I’m not taking Lariam.’”

However, Dannatt’s men didn’t get the same choice, and were forced to take Lariam because the drug’s effects – which can include severe long-term mental health issues – had not yet been worked out.

Dannatt said he was quite content to say sorry to those troops who had taken Lariam. They had been given it because the military hadn’t reached a settled view on whether Lariam was more beneficial or harmfulat the time.

Military doctors prescribed more than 17,000 troops with the drug – also known as Mefloquine – between April 2007 and March 2015. It is one of a range of drugs and the military maintains it is used for specific theaters where particular types of malaria threaten troops’ health.

Lariam is already banned in the US. A UK Defence Committee report fell short of scrapping the drug in May 2016.

In 2012, Dr Remington Nevin, a US Army epidemiologist whose research found the drug could be toxic to the brain, told the Daily Mail:
Mefloquine is a zombie drug. It’s dangerous, and it should have been killed off years ago.

Former FBI Chief claims most terror attacks are committed by our CIA & FBI

Millions of Americans were awakened to the travesty of 9/11 on the day that it occurred, or at least in the months and years that followed.

For some, it was the first realization of the ruthless and extensive covert planning, preparation, propaganda and myth-making necessary to pull off a false flag event, when a government attacks its own people as the means to an end.

This strategic use of terror, death and mayhem to commandeer a nation’s populous into whatever direction deemed prudent by the sociopaths in power is not a recent technique … and it’s an option that has been utilized to steer history time and time again, as this article from Global Research attests.

Nazi military leader Herman Goering, who committed suicide before his appointed hanging after the Nuremburg trials, understood the false flag mechanism clearly, as his quote, courtesy of GoodReads.com, proclaims: “People can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peace makers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.”

The ability to discern and dig out the truth behind false flag events has become exponentially easier since the inception of the internet. Conversely, so has the tracking of every word we write, every purchase we make and every place we trek. But before this web of information — and disinformation — was created, it was incumbent upon truth-tellers to have access to details in more traditional ways: Investigative journalism articles, historical documents and books, insiders sharing leaks and one-on-one interviews.

The late Ted Gunderson learned the ropes of high-profile investigations and had some access to the files and secret dealings of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in his 27-year career.

Gunderson retired in Los Angeles as the FBI Senior Special Deputy in Charge with the responsibility of leading 700 people and a budget of $21 million. After leaving the FBI, Gunderson became a private investigator and worked on cases where his eyes were open to the underbelly of deception.

These are described by Activist.com, as “false flag terrorism, satanic ritual abuse, and mind control.”
Gunderson shared his take on the intimate involvement of the FBI and CIA false flag operations in this 2009 interview, featured on Talk Network, with his journalist friend, activist and filmmaker, Anthony J. Hilder.

Ted Gunderson is remembered as a truth-teller’s truth-teller. His life was shaped by his desire to protect the innocent and work for justice on their behalf. While there are detractors and defamers online, you don’t have to dig too deeply to discover his prescient awakening to the mechanics of the dark side in operation today. We can see the results of his findings with our own eyes.

If you’re a truth-teller in this day and age, keeping healthy and strong is of vital importance. Drinking clean water, eating good food, adding detoxification elements like organic chlorella, as well as getting up and away from your person technological gadgets is essential.

Ted Gunderson never gave up. Neither should we.

Pogroms Against Gypsies Have Begun in Ukraine

A still from a video taken on Sunday of Ukrainian police officers escorting Roma residents from the village of Loshchynivka, Ukraine
Originally appeared at The New York Times
Several dozen people in a Roma community in southern Ukraine were forced to flee their homes after a mob tore through their neighborhood over the weekend, breaking windows, tearing down fences and even setting a house on fire while the heavily outnumbered police stood by and watched.

The violence in the small town, Loshchynivka, was touched off after a local man was arrested on Saturday in connection with the rape and killing of a 9-year-old girl. A Ukrainian rights organization, the Kharkiv Human Rights Protection Group, noted that the man was not Roma.

But residents said tensions between non-Roma and Roma, already high, boiled over after the girl’s body was found. One villager, Oksana Glinko, told the local news media that people in Loshchynivka were “living in constant fear” of the Roma.

After the girl’s death, hundreds of residents demanded that the Roma be expelled, and on Sunday they gained the backing of the district council. Even Mikheil Saakashvili, the governor of the region of Odessa, which includes Loshchynivka, and a former president of Georgia, offered tacit support in a video message posted on Facebook, denouncing the village’s “antisocial elements.”

The Roma apparently left voluntarily, and by Sunday night about 40 of the 50 Roma in the town had left in a rush, leaving many essentials behind. Any who returned to collect their belongings were met with threats of lynching, the local news media reported.

With the authorities under pressure to prosecute the accused, a local police leader, Vadym Mohyla, said it was unfortunately “impossible to immediately punish the guilty.”
Russia–Iran-Turkey Axis: Common Interests and a Message to the West
Russian President Vladimir Putin (C-L) and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan (C-R) enter a hall to start their meeting with Russian and Turkish entrepreneurs in Konstantinovsky Palace outside Saint Petersburg on August 9, 2016
It has become clear that Russia, Turkey and Iran are clearly determined to ally, overcoming recent discrepancies; the French news site Atlantico sat down with geopolitical analyst Alexandre Del Valle and former French intelligence senior officer Alain Rodier to discuss what the three have in common and what their axis could mean for the West.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has recently offered to organize a trilateral meeting between Iran, Russia and Turkey to discuss the settlement of the Syrian crisis.
Besides, there is a clear thaw in bilateral relationships between all the three countries.
Hence the French news site Atlantico decided to explore what common interests could unite the tripartite.
“I think this is not necessarily an agreement that augurs a lasting alliance. However the most interesting characteristic feature of the evolving partnership is pragmatism,” well-known European geopolitical analyst Alexandre Del Valle told the website.
He recalled that only recently Shiite Iran and Sunni Turkey were almost at daggers drawn with each other over Syria.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan wanted to topple the Syrian regime and fight against the Kurds while Iran wanted to protect Bashar Assad against Turkish-backed militants (Daesh, al-Nusra Front, Ahrar al-Sham, Jaish al-Fatah, Jaysh al-Islam).
For its part, Russia, on the one hand, did not fully support Iran, but on the other, was still with the backers of the Syrian government pursuing its own interests in the Mediterranean region.

Iran wanted to preserve its strategic interests in the Middle East where Syria is the gate to the region.
However this year Erdogan has realized that his pro-jihadist strategy has turned against him: and Turkish citizens have been regularly falling victims to Daesh terrorists and the Kurds, who have been outraged by Ankara;s fight against their Syrian counterparts.
He understood that the Islamists whom he backed are now not only threatening his leadership in his home country, but have also driven a wedge between Turkey and Russia. And he can’t allow the full breakup with Moscow due to economic, energy and military-political reasons.
As a clever and pragmatic politician, more flexible and capable than many think, Erdogan then made a U-turn.
Hence, Del Valle concluded, the main feature of the evolving partnership is pragmatism.
Besides, the three countries have common attitude towards the West, which they commonly regard as “arrogant” and “prone to interference”.
They are not friends, but they do understand that for the sake of realpolitik they need to start negotiating and improving their partner relationship despite clear differences in their local interests.
The geopolitical analysts noted that it is not a rapprochement but an acknowledgment that it is in the interests of each of them to find a common solution.
The dialogue between the three could bring a lot more then rivalry as their economies are intertwined and depend on each other.
Former French intelligence senior officer, director of the French Center for Research and Intelligence (CF2R) Alain Rodier told the website that the three countries have another common interest: to outperform Washington and Brussels, whom they accuse of an intention to impose their own rules in international politics.
The experts also noted that the partnership of the three countries is also a way to demonstrate to the West that they have to take into consideration not only their own interests and there is an alternative to the European Union.
Erdogan, for his part, is trying to pursue his own interest: in return for his estrangement from Russia and Iran he can put forward his own demands to the EU and US.
He understands that the further he goes cooperating with Moscow and Tehran, the more guarantees and compensations he could get from Washington and Brussels.
From the EU, Alexandre Del Valle suggests, Erdogan can demand guarantees over the visa-free deal, refugee deal, Cyprus, etc.
The US, for its part, needs Turkey as a NATO member state and a partner in other western alliances.
“We are living in a multipolar world where everyone is defending its own interests and without unnecessary moralizaing is maintaining dialogue with anyone who fits into them,” the expert said.
The West should have already understood it and should have forgotten its moralization over human rights protection which is harming its interests and is igniting hatred towards it due to pragmatism and geo-civilizational interests, the expert said.
Erdogan would have respected Europe a lot more if it behaved like Putin when the new Turkish sultan blackmails it or goes too far.

Iran says no to GMO: Parliament Committee on Agriculture banned import, production and consumption of GM crops

Abbas Papizadeh aa42c

Abbas Papizadeh, member of Iranian Parliament Committee on Agriculture, in an interview with Tasnim News talked about a clause in government’s Sixth Development Plan on commercializing GM crops and stated:
“GM crops are a risk for people’s health and we had a long discussion about whether we must allow production of these crops or not while we were studying Sixth Development Plan in Agriculture Committee.”

He explained the idea of banning production and consumption of GM crops in sixth Development Plan was brought up by him and added: “there were other suggestions such as producing GM crops limitedly or under supervision of strict standards, but finally the bill was written to ban import, production and consumption of GM crops in Iran.”

Papizadeh said that planting GM crops and organic products were investigated in Sixth Development Plan and affirmed: “in this plan, import and production of GM crops will be banned while planting organic products will increase.”

This member of Parliament Committee on Agriculture stated: “in the Plan approved by Agriculture Committee, it’s mentioned that government mustn’t allow any sort of GM crops to enter consumer market in Iran.”

When he was asked whether oil cake and Bt cotton were banned in Sixth Plan, he clarified: “oil cake is not consumed directly by humans, but since it’s food for poultry and humans consume their meat, there is possibility of its negative effect on humans. Import and consumption of Bt cotton is also forbidden.”

Abbas Papizadeh acknowledged: “although negative effects of GM crops have not been fully proved yet, but as long as they’re not announced harmless by science, we have no way but to prevent their production and import.”

He continued: “developing and planting organic products, imposing national standards for quality control of agriculture products, expanding control over usage of pesticides and decreasing it, supporting Plant Medicine clinics and sustainable consumption of fertilizers and pesticides are some other issues considered in Sixth Plan.”

Papizadeh said: “we hope that this 5 year-plan will help to decrease treatment costs and increase public health.”

The bill written by Parliament Committee on Agriculture is passed to Parliament Joint Committee and after they approve it and it’s put in Parliament’s final report, Parliament members will be vote on it in plenary session and it will become a law.

June 21, 2012

Meldingen er som følger:

“Jens Stoltenberg:

-har sendt kr 500.000.000,- hver uke i snart 8 år (over 27 mrd i fjor) i såkalt U-hjelp til bl.a Afrikanske land.

  3. 850 milioner for å sikre grønn energi i 3 afrikanske land.
  5. Humanitære bidrag 2,2 milliarder (i hht statsbudsjettet 2012)

Vi kunne fortsatt å ramse opp flere saker, men velger å stoppe her.

The Jerusalem Post Slams George Soros’s 'Campaign of Global Chaos'

The first thing that we see is the megalomaniacal nature of Soros’s philanthropic project. No corner of the globe is unaffected by his efforts. No policy area is left untouched
Everybody hates this guy..., we wonder why
Originally appeared at The Jerusalem Post
US have ignored the leak of thousands of emails from billionaire George Soros’s Open Society Foundation by the activist hacker group DCLeaks. The OSF is the vehicle through which Soros has funneled billions of dollars over the past two decades to non-profit organizations in the US and throughout the world.

According to the documents, Soros has given more than $30 million to groups working for Hillary Clinton’s election in November, making him her largest single donor. So it is likely the case that the media’s support for Clinton has played some role in the mainstream media’s bid to bury the story.

It is also likely however, that at least some news editors failed to understand why the leaked documents were worth covering. Most of the information was already public knowledge. Soros’s massive funding of far-left groups in the US and throughout the world has been documented for more than a decade.

But failing to see the significance of the wider story because many of the details were already known is a case of missing the forest for the trees. The DCLeaks document dump is a major story because it exposes the forest of Soros’s funding networks.

The first thing that we see is the megalomaniacal nature of Soros’s philanthropic project. No corner of the globe is unaffected by his efforts. No policy area is left untouched.

On the surface, the vast number of groups and people he supports seem unrelated. After all, what does climate change have to do with illegal African immigration to Israel? What does Occupy Wall Street have to do with Greek immigration policies? But the fact is that Soros-backed projects share basic common attributes.

They all work to weaken the ability of national and local authorities in Western democracies to uphold the laws and values of their nations and communities.

They all work to hinder free markets, whether those markets are financial, ideological, political or scientific. They do so in the name of democracy, human rights, economic, racial and sexual justice and other lofty terms.

In other words, their goal is to subvert Western democracies and make it impossible for governments to maintain order or for societies to retain their unique identities and values.

Black Lives Matter, which has received $650,000 from Soros-controlled groups over the past year, is a classic example of these efforts. Until recently, the police were universally admired in the US as the domestic equivalent of the military. BLM emerged as a social force bent on politicizing support for police.

Its central contention is that in the US, police are not a force for good, enabling society to function by maintaining law and order. Rather, police are a tool of white repression of blacks.

Law enforcement in predominantly African American communities is under assault as inherently racist.
BLM agitation, which has been accused of inspiring the murders of police in several US cities, has brought about two responses from rank and file police. First, they have been demoralized, as they find themselves criminalized for trying to keep their cities safe from criminals.

Second, their willingness to use force in situations that demand the use of force has diminished. Fear of criminal charges on the one hand, and public condemnation as “racists” on the other causes police to prefer inaction even when situations require that they act.

The demoralization and intimidation of police is very likely to cause a steep increase in violent crimes.

Then there are Soros’s actions on behalf of illegal immigration. From the US to Europe to Israel, Soros has implemented a worldwide push to use immigration to undermine the national identity and demographic composition of Western democracies. The leaked emails show that his groups have interfered in European elections to get politicians elected who support open border policies for immigrants from the Arab world and to financially and otherwise support journalists who report sympathetically on immigrants.

Soros’s groups are on the ground enabling illegal immigrants to enter the US and Europe. They have sought to influence US Supreme Court rulings on illegal immigration from Mexico. They have worked with Muslim and other groups to demonize Americans and Europeans who oppose open borders.

In Israel as well, Soros opposes government efforts to end the flow of illegal immigration from Africa through the border with Egypt.

The notion at the heart of the push for the legalization of unfettered immigration is that states should not be able to protect their national identities.

If it is racist for Greeks to protect their national identity by seeking to block the entrance of millions of Syrians to their territory, then it is racist for Greece – or France, Germany, Hungary, Sweden the US or Poland – to exist.

Parallel to these efforts are others geared toward rejecting the right of Western democracies to uphold long-held social norms. Soros-supported groups, for instance, stand behind the push not only for gay marriage but for unisex public bathrooms.

They support not only the right of women to serve in combat units, but efforts to force soldiers to live in unisex barracks. In other words, they support efforts aimed at denying citizens of Western democracies the right to maintain any distance between themselves and Soros’s rejection of their most intimate values – their sexual privacy and identity.

As far as Israel is concerned, Soros-backed groups work to delegitimize every aspect of Israeli society as racist and illegitimate. The Palestinians are focal point of his attacks. He uses them to claim that Israel is a racist state. Soros funds moderate leftist groups, radical leftist groups, Israeli Arab groups and Palestinian groups. In various, complementary ways, these groups tell their target audiences that Israel has no right to defend itself or enforce its laws toward its non-Jewish citizens.

In the US, Soros backed groups from BLM to J Street work to make it socially and politically acceptable to oppose Israel.

The thrust of Soros’s efforts from Ferguson to Berlin to Jerusalem is to induce mayhem and chaos as local authorities, paralyzed by his supported groups, are unable to secure their societies or even argue coherently that they deserve security.

In many ways, Donald Trump’s campaign is a direct response not to Clinton, but to Soros himself.

By calling for the erection of a border wall, supporting Britain’s exit from the EU, supporting Israel, supporting a temporary ban on Muslim immigration and supporting the police against BLM, Trump acts as a direct foil to Soros’s multi-billion dollar efforts.

The DCLeaks exposed the immensity of the Soros-funded Left’s campaign against the foundations of liberal democracies. The “direct democracy” movements that Soros support are nothing less than calls for mob rule.

The peoples of the West need to recognize the common foundations of all Soros’s actions. They need to realize as well that the only response to these premeditated campaigns of subversion is for the people of the West to stand up for their national rights and their individual right to security. They must stand with the national institutions that guarantee that security, in accordance with the rule of the law, and uphold and defend their national values and traditions.

The Real US Syria Scandal: Supporting Sectarian War

The main criticism of US policy in Syria has long been that President Barack Obama should have used US military force or more aggressive arms aid to strengthen the armed opposition to Assad. The easy answer is that the whole idea that there was a viable non-extremist force to be strengthened is a myth – albeit one that certain political figures in London and Washington refuse to give up.

But the question that should have been debated is why the Obama administration acquiesced to its allies funding and supplying a group of unsavoury sectarian armed groups to overthrow the Assad regime.

That US acquiescence is largely responsible for a horrible bloodletting that has now killed as many as 400,000 Syrians. Worse yet, there is still no way to end the war without the serious threat of sectarian retribution against the losers.

“The Obama administration bears responsibility for this atrocity, because it could have prevented Turkey, Qatar and Saudi Arabia from launching their foolishly adventurous war in Syria. None of them did so out of desperate need; it was a war of choice in every case. And each of the three states is part of the US security system in the Middle East, providing military bases to NATO or to the United States and depending on US support for its security.

But instead of insisting that those three Sunni allies reconsider their options, the Obama administration gave the green light at a conference in Riyadh at the end of March 2012 for proceeding with arming those who wanted to replace the regime, leaving the United States ostensibly free to be a peacemaker. As Hillary Clinton put it at the Riyadh conference: “Some will be able to do certain things, and others will do other things.”

The policymakers responsible for Syria should have known that the seeds of violent sectarian conflict had already been planted in Syria by the early 1980s and that the present war was deeply infected by sectarianism from the beginning. They knew that the Assad regime ruled from the beginning with an iron hand primarily to protect the interests of the Alawites, but also to protect the Christian and Druze minorities against Sunni sectarianism.

The faction of the banned Muslim Brotherhood based in Hama adopted a decidedly sectarian line toward the Alawites, not only referring to the Ba’athist government as an “apostate regime” and sought its violent overthrow, but also demonstrated a readiness to kill Alawites, simply because they were not regarded as true believers in Islam.

After the initial failed armed struggle against the regime, the organisers were forced into exile, but in 1979 an underground member of the Fighting Vanguard faction of the Brotherhood named Ibrahim al-Yousef, who had infiltrated the Syrian army artillery school in Aleppo, separated all the Alawite cadets from the non-Alawites and then shot 32 of them dead and wounded 54 before escaping.

In 1980, after the Brotherhood made an unsuccessful attempt to assassinate Hafez al-Assad himself, the regime took swift and brutal retribution: the very next morning, between 600 and 1,000 Brotherhood prisoners were killed in their cells.

Sectarian violence in Syria reached its climax in 1982, when the Syrian army went into Hama to break the Brotherhood’s control over the city. The operation began when Syrian army troops entered the city to get individuals on its list of Brotherhood members, but were mowed down by Brotherhood machine gunners. Thousands more regime troops were sent to the city, and the Brotherhood mobilised the entire Sunni population to fight. The mosques blared the message, “Rise up and drive the unbelievers from Hama,” as Thomas L. Friedman recounted in 1989.

After encountering much stiffer guerrilla resistance than it expected in Hama, the Syrian army used heavy weaponry against the areas of the city where the Brotherhood’s military forces were concentrated. After the Brotherhood’s resistance in the city was finally defeated the military completed the total destruction of three whole neighbourhoods where the Brotherhood had been dominant, and the army continued to take retribution against families with ties to the organisation. At least 5,000 Sunnis were killed; the Brotherhood itself claimed 20,000 dead.

The sectarian extremism expressed both by the Assad regime and by the Muslim Brotherhood 30 years earlier was bound to be repeated in the conflict that began in 2011 - especially in the areas of Aleppo and Hama, where the armed opposition was especially strong. The initial slogans used by anti-Assad demonstrators were not sectarian, but that all changed after the anti-Assad armed struggle was taken over by jihadists and Salafists.

Turkey and Qatar, both of which supported the Brotherhood’s exiled leaders, began funnelling arms to the groups with the strongest commitment to a sectarian anti-Shiite and anti-Alawite viewpoint. A major recipient of Turkish funding and arms was Ahrar al-Sham, which shared its al-Qaeda ally al-Nusra Front’s sectarian Sunni view of the Alawite minority. It considered the Alawites to be part of the Shiite enemy and therefore the object of a “holy war”.

Another favourite of the US allies was Jaish al-Islam, the Salafist organisation in the Damascus suburbs whose former leader Zahran Alloush talked openly about cleansing Damascus of the Shiites and Alawites, both of whom he lumped together as “Majous” – the abusive term used for pre-Islamic non-Arabic people from Iran.

If there was any doubt that the anti-Alawite sectarianism of the past is still a major part of the thinking of the armed opposition, it should have been eliminated after what happened during the “Great Battle for Aleppo”. The newly renamed al-Qaeda franchise Jabhat Fateh al Sham, which planned and led that offensive to break through Syrian government lines around Aleppo, named the offensive after Ibrahim al-Yousef, the Muslim Brotherhood officer who had carried out the cold-blooded murder of Alawite recruits at the artillery school in Aleppo in 1979. And as Syria expert Joshua Landis tweeted on 4 August, a video statement by a masked militant posted by the newly named al-Qaeda organisation threatened to do the same thing to the Alawites in Aleppo after taking over the city.

Could senior Obama administration officials have been unaware that a war to overthrow Assad would inevitably become an enormous sectarian bloodbath? By August 2012 a US Defense Intelligence Agency report intelligence warned that “events are taking a clear sectarian direction,” and that the “the “Salafist[s], Muslim Brotherhood and AQI [al-Qaeda in Iraq]” were “the major forces driving the insurgency”. Furthermore, the Obama administration already knew by then that the external Sunni sponsors of the war against Assad were channeling their money and arms to the most sectarian groups in the field.

But the administration did nothing to pressure its allies to stop it. In fact, it actually wove its own Syria policy around the externally fuelled war by overwhelmingly sectarian forces. And no one in the US political-media elite raised the issue.

It took a remarkable degree of denial and self-deception for the Obama administration to believe that it was somehow acting to rescue the Syrian people from the bloodletting when it was doing precisely the opposite.

No matter how brutal its rule and its war tactics have been, a war to overthrow the Assad regime could only plunge the country into a terrible sectarian bloodbath. And the consequences of the sectarian war will continue for years into the future. The Obama administration’s failure to firmly reject that war should be viewed as one of the worst of the long parade of American transgressions in the Middle East.

US Government Cuts Off Water Supply To Native Americans

Posted on August 26, 2016 by Sean Adl-Tabatabai
Homeland Security have ordered police to remove water tanks from Native Americans, starving them of their vital water supply.
Amid thousands of people protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline, North Dakota DHS officials decided to remove any access to water to protestors as punishment.
Countercurrentnews.com reports:
Growing in number and spirit, the Standing Rock Sioux protest against the Dakota Access Pipeline is swiftly gaining strength ahead of a federal hearing on the controversial project. Support has spread across the country, and thousands have descended on the peaceful “prayer camps” in recent days, prompting state officials on Monday to remove the demonstrators’ drinking water supply.
North Dakota homeland security director Greg Wilz ordered the removal of state-owned trailers and water tanks from the protest encampment, despite the sweltering heat, because of alleged disorderly conduct, according to theBismarck Tribune, including reports of laser pointers aimed at surveillance aircraft.

“People are getting overheated now already,” said Johnelle Leingang, the tribe’s emergency response coordinator, as temperatures hovered around 90º F on Monday. “It’s very hurtful.”

The supplies were provided last week by the North Dakota Department of Health at the tribe’s request to support the roughly 2,500 people now gathered along the Standing Rock reservation’s border on the Cannonball River, near where the pipeline is slated to cross.

Standing Rock spokesman Steven Sitting Bear said he’s received “notifications from tribes all over the country that have caravans in route, so it’s continuing to grow.”

On Wednesday, high profile activists and supporters are rallying in Washington D.C. outside the U.S. District Court, where members of the Standing Rock Sioux will argue that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers granted Energy Transfer Corporation approval for the 1,172-mile pipeline without tribal consent.

The tribe says that the pipeline—which will carry up to 570,000 barrels of fracked Bakken oil daily across four states to a market hub in Illinois—puts the sacred waters of the Missouri River at great risk.

“The Army Corps of Engineers might back off… We might, after five centuries, actually listen to the only people who’ve ever successfully inhabited this continent for the long term.”

Climate campaigner and 350.org co-founder Bill McKibben penned an op-ed on Monday titled “After 525 years, it’s time to actually listen to Native Americans.”

McKibben notes that in recent years Indigenous people like the Standing Rock Sioux “have been the vanguard of the movement to slow down climate change,” and offers a vision of “what it might mean if the if the Army Corps, or the Obama administration, simply said: ‘You know what, you’re right. We don’t need to build this pipeline.’”

“It would mean that after 525 years, someone had actually paid attention to the good sense that Native Americans have been offering almost from the start,” he continues:

One has the ominous sense of grim history about to be reenacted at Standing Rock. North Dakota authorities—who are in essence a subsidiary of the fossil fuel industry—have insisted that the Sioux are violent, that they have “pipe bombs.” There are rumors about calling in the National Guard. The possibility for renewed tragedy is very real.

But the possibility for a new outcome is there as well. The Army Corps of Engineers might back off. The president might decide, as he did with Keystone, that this pipeline would “exacerbate” climate change and hence should be reviewed more carefully. We might, after five centuries, actually listen to the only people who’ve ever successfully inhabited this continent for the long term.

Construction on the pipeline remains halted after developers paused the project last week in anticipation of the Wednesday hearing.

Meanwhile, a U.S. District Court hearing on whether a preliminary injunction should be issued against the protesters has been rescheduled from Thursday to Sept. 8, although a restraining order against the demonstrators has also been extended until then. Filing the order on Monday, U.S. District Judge Daniel Hovland wrote that factions are ‘”strongly encouraged to meet and confer in good faith’ to try and resolve the dispute out of court,” the Tribune reported.

Big war coming: DPR prepares for civilians’ evacuation from firing line

In Donetsk and a number of the DPR localities in close proximity to the contact line, the city authorities massively check air-raid shelters, and also carry out works on re-equipment to shelters in houses’ cellars, told the Mayor of Donetsk Igor Martynov.
"Since the outbreak of hostilities in 2014 we have been preparing shelters for evacuation of the population. Unfortunately, in the city there are few specially equipped air-raid shelters with not enough room for everyone therefore we use any housing which can serve as a shelter. In localities, residential areas, in the streets — everywhere where it is possible, we try to organize premises for people to use. We check such places for them to be, first of all, open, and secondly - dry. Normal conditions are necessary for stay in air-raid shelters. We try to collect indoors the minimum set: candles, fire and, whenever possible, water.
For today we have prepared all the near-front air-raid shelters - especially in those houses which are located in the close proximity to the contact line. People don't want to leave those places. They don't move and aren't going to do it therefore it is very important to help them. We will consider cellar which can serve as an air-raid shelter to be the one," he reported.
The Head of the DPR Alexander Zakharchenko reported that the AFU offensive is expected, and therefore preparation of hiding-places and alerting of air-raid shelters has begun in the Republic.

KSA's ISIS kill 60 in Yemen [+Video]

Fort RussAugust 30th, 2016 - Fort Russ News -
- RT with Marwa Osman, text J. Flores -

Saudi backed forces of ISIS have killed 60 in an attack in the port city of Aden, Yemen, which has been invaded by Saudi regular forces as well. Middle-east expert Marwa Osman gives a concise overview of the nature of this attack, and explores some of the factional infighting between several Saudi-backed groups.

Riyadh is using ISIS as another proxy army to achieve its goals in Yemen. But the ISIS attack was upon a separate Saudi backed force, which Osman describes as being the product of a localization of the conflict, where various semi-autonomous fighting units are at odds with each other over control of Aden.

ISIS is a proxy army of mercenaries being used to bring about regime change, which Osman has described since 2011, based upon the ideology of Wahhabism, with the support of the Saud monarchy in Saudi Arabia. The KSA, she explains, has no other choice. They are losing in Yemen, and have lost a lot in Syria, and even in Iraq the KSA is losing its diplomatic footing all together. US and UK advisers inside of the Saudi capital of Riyadh are working alongside the Saudis to most effectively coordinate their combined war aims.
