The Israeli Air Force is participating in an extensive international exercise in Greece alongside pilots from America, Greece, Italy and the UAE, according to reports

The drills are designed to help pilots "deal" with Russian-made defense systems, including the S-300, which is currently operational in Syria and Iran.

The exercises will run from March 27 to April 6, and are taking place in Greece. According to Sputnik, Greece acquired a S-300 system from Russia in the late 1990s and is the only member of NATO which has the system in service.

Although similar drills have been held before, they take on special significance considering the heightened tensions between Israel and Syria:
Israel has acquired technical data about the S-300 system, which is capable of hitting aerial targets at a distance of 150 kilometers, and an altitude of up to 27,000 meters.
The maneuvers were aimed at testing out different tactics against the S-300, in simulated attacks against ground targets protected by S-300 batteries.
Fred Johs:
Sorry Israel ... but there is zero chance that their fighters escape an S-300 or S-400 missile when the system is locked on target with radar. The planes will be "dead ducks in the air" ..

SBU Colonel, fond of torturing civilians, blown up in Mariupol

In Mariupol, a car exploded in which was Colonel of the Security Service of Ukraine, Alexander Kharaberyush. According to the SBU Head Vasily Gritsak, the perished person was the Vice-Commander of the chief counterintelligence department under the Donetsk Security Service Office.

The explosion took place at 8:35 am in the central district of Mariupol at the junction of Metallurgov Avenue and Kaffaiskaya Street. Police, explosive ordnance disposal team, rescuers and forensics are working on the site. The area was cordoned off.

Ukrainian ‘authorities’ do not exclude that the SBU Colonel was killed in a terrorist attack.
Another opinion was stated by the ex-head of the DPR MGB Andrei Pinchuk. According to him, the SBU Colonel Alexander Kharaberyush, who was blown up in Mariupol’s city-centre in his private car, rather paid for torturing, bullying and extorting money from local residents, accused by Ukrainian special services of sympathizing with Russia or Donbass Republics.
The name of the killed Colonel was earlier mentioned in Pinchuk's memoirs, in which the DPR MGB ex-head called Kharaberyush the curator of sophisticated tortures of the supporters of Russia and LPR, DPR, which began in Mariupol as early as 2014, when the city was seized by Ukrainian troops.

Oligarchs Laughed When Putin Said He Would Double Russia's GDP in 10 Years. Now He Wants to Do It Again

Russia experienced an economic miracle between 2003 and 2013. Can it happen again?

Despite western attempts to drag Russia down, Putin has performed magnificently
Wed, Mar 29, 2017
Despite western attempts to drag Russia down, Putin has performed magnificently.
In his state-of-the-nation address in 2003, President Putin said Russia would double its GDP in ten years.

At the time, many thought it could not be done. Russia was still recovering from the 1998 financial crisis, during which the Russian Central Bank devalued the ruble and defaulted on its debt.
According to former Duma Deputy Alexander Zhukov, "Many people doubted that [doubling the GDP] was possible".

Some even laughed at the notion as ridiculous or meaningless ("it's easy to double from zero").

But Russia's GDP more than doubled between 2003 and 2013, and Russia is now gearing up for another economic miracle.
(For the sake of accuracy, technically Putin's plan was to double GDP by 2012, taking the 2002 figure as the base. GDP doubled in this timeframe as well.)
From one of our favorite RI contributors:
Today the GDP value of Russia represents 2.14 percent of the world economy. GDP in Russia averaged 876.86 USD Billion from 1989 until 2015, reaching an all-time high of US$2230.63 billion in 2013 and then the combined influence of the drop in oil prices combined with imposed sanctions had its effect on growth during 2014, 2015 and to a lesser degree in 2016. It is worth recalling that the total GDP in 1999 was US$ 195.91 billion. This sort of improvement roughly equals a greater than tenfold increase in as many years.
And now Russia is preparing to double GDP by 2035:
Russia has the potential to double GDP by 2035, said former Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin who is now head of a leading Russian think tank, the Center for Strategic Research (CSR). Kudrin is the man behind a new economic program prepared for President Vladimir Putin, and he said that in order to reach the GDP goal, serious reforms must be implemented that will fundamentally change the Russian economy's structure.
Obviously, 2035 is not ten years away. So this time the GDP doubling will take a bit longer.

But Russia is well-positioned to make it happen. The plummeting price in oil has been a blessing in disguise. Russia was forced to diversify its economy and develop industries such as agriculture and manufacturing. Russia isn't planning on "throwing hydrocarbon resources into the furnace to maintain extensive growth". Now it's focused on creating a full-bodied, sustainable economy.

You can laugh if you want. But there's a bad historic precedent for doubting Russia's economic potential.

Nearly half of Russians want Donbass freedom

Just like with Crimea, there is no other just alternative than for Donbass to come home to Russia.
A recent poll by Russian VTSIOM has indicated that virtually half of Russians polled either favour the recognition of the Donbass republics as sovereign entities or the full incorporation of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics into the Russian Federation.

Of those polled, only 4% stated that they favour Kiev rule over the republics.

The Russian people seem to have woken up to a reality that more retrained voices in the Kremlin still haven’t fully internalised.  The Donbass republics are sovereign entities in spite of non-recognition by Russia and nothing is going to change that. The sooner that Russia accepts this reality, the better.

There is simply no practical alternative than for Russia to recognise the existing sovereignty of the republics of Donbass and no moral alternative than to incorporate these free-born republics into the neighbouring Russian Federation.

There have indeed been some important measures taken by Russia to normalise the lives of citizens of Donetsk and Lugansk. Recently, a Presidential degree from Vladimir Putin declared that Donbass issued documents such as passports, driving licences and birth certificates are now legally acceptable in Russia. Furthermore, Donbass passport holders now have the full right to work and live in Russia. Russian based banks are also now opening up accounts for citizens of the Donbass republics.

But these small measures are not enough. The deplorable, blood-soaked and totally unfit for purpose regime in Kiev deserves the respect of no one and the scorn of every decent person in the world.
It is a regime that has waged a genocidal war against Donbass while not even being about to provide basic public services to areas it still controls.

The people of Donbass deserve far better.

There have been several theories suggested as to why Russia has been so aloof from enacting the inevitable return of Donbass to its mother country. This contrasts sharply with the speedy normalisation of life in Crimea after a peaceful, democratic referendum. But Donbass too had referenda in Donetsk and Lugansk.

Some have suggested that if Russia militarily secured the sovereignty of the Donbass repulbics, NATO might come in to aid the fascist aggressors. Some also claim that because unlike Crimea Donbass is landlocked, such a thing would have been more easily achieved from the NATO side.

Even during the darkest days of the Obama regime, it was never likely that NATO would have risked a third world war in order to prop up the fascists in Kiev who are constantly fighting among themselves.
Another theory states that Russia prefers Donbass to remain in a federated Ukraine in order to oppose the fascist policies that generally eliminate from the former Polish and Austrian regions of the country.

This too is a rather fatuous theory as even if one takes the Donbass republics out of the Ukrainian equation, there are still many Russian majority anti-fascist regions of that state that would serve as a counterweight to the neo-Nazism of western Ukrainian regions.

Lastly, there is the argument that Russia could not economically absorb Donbass. This too is a rather inane statement. The Russian Federation is a massive country which has expended resources on fighting a war against terrorism for their ally in Syria. Surely if Russia could expend these resources, a superpower like Russia could afford to take on Donbass, which after a short while could well return to the industrial heartland it once was, therefore adding economic value to the Russian Federation.

Russia’s timidity on the issue is increasingly not worth the cost of lives in Donbass. The inevitable should not be delayed. The Russian government should take a cue from its own people and bring Donbass back home once and for all. If it’s good enough a move for  picturesque Crimea, it is good enough for industrial Donbass.

The Yugoslav Wars: Story of Serbian Genocide Still Remains Untold

The Russo-Western conflict over Ukraine is a continuation of the geopolitical war against Russia unleashed by the US in Yugoslavia in the 1990s, Dragana Trifkovic told Sputnik, nailing the West for the deliberate demonization of the two nations.
The British-drafted anti-Serbian resolution over the so-called "Srebrenica massacre" discussed in the UN Security Council earlier this month is part of a Western geopolitical game aimed against Serbia and Russia which started with the Yugoslav War of 1991-2001, according to Dragana Trifkovic, an author, expert in geopolitics and the Director General of the Center for Geostrategic Studies, in Belgrade, Serbia.

"This war represented the first phase of surrounding Russia, and the elimination of its allies, as well as the testing ground for trying out new methods for special war, which are afterwards used in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria and now in Ukraine," Dragana Trifkovic told Sputnik.

The expert emphasized that the West is waging a hybrid war using all types of resources, from informational and economic to diplomatic, political, and the military, engaging foreign proxy armies in its overseas operations. The West misinforms and manipulates the public via controlled media sources, persistently falsifying the truth. It is also making repeated attempts to rewrite history, turning executioners into victims and victims into executioners.
The UN Srebrenica resolution, vetoed by Moscow, is a vivid example of such a misconception: there is no evidence to confirm the assumption that Serbs intended to commit "genocide" on Bosnian Muslims in Srebrenica, nor any order by Serbian military leadership approving such an action, Dragana Trifkovic highlighted.

According to the expert, another fact that should be known about Srebrenica is that most of the victims were killed during the battle for Srebrenica and belonged to the 28th Division of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Army.

"The Commander of that Division was infamous Naser Oric who was acquitted of responsibility for committed crimes by the Hague tribunal," Dragana Trifkovic remarked.

"And the third important fact which West and British resolution does not mention, is that from 1992 to 1995 in Srebrenica and surrounding villages around 3,500 Serbs were killed — mostly peaceful civilians, including women, children and elderly people," the expert underscored.

Srebrenica Victims Numbers Exaggerated

Numbers of Srebrenica victims has been dramatically exaggerated by the West, the expert pointed out. And that is not all.
"Not only the number of 8000 Muslim victims is exaggerated, but many of the victims, whose name are carved into the monument, live in the United States or vote at elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Namely, the Hague Court granted that all persons registered as missing are victims, in realistic reports alleges that about 2,000 Muslims were actually killed," Dragana Trifkovic noted.
She also pointed to the fact that the British sponsors of the resolution have remained silent about that fact that a substantial number of foreign Islamists had been fighting together with the Bosnian army against Serbs.

"And now we come to the conclusion, which is also the answer to the question why British sponsors of the resolution do not mention mujaheddins. Because the West was deeply involved in the war in Yugoslavia. There is also a testimony of the fact that Bill Clinton and Alija Izetbegovic agreed to sacrifice Srebrenica and kill at least 5,000 people, because that would justify the NATO bombing of Serbian positions," the expert pointed out.

Dragana Trifkovic also stressed that the British-drafted resolution had obviously had the objective to brand the Serbian people as a "genocidal nation" paving the way for the revision of the Dayton Agreement of 1995, which would put Bosnia and Herzegovina under the control of Muslims and Croats, and permanently disable any rights to Serbs.

The Untold Story of the Genocide of Serbs

While the West is placing the burden of responsibility for the Yugoslav Wars on Serbs, it was the Serbian nation who is the greatest victim of these military conflicts.
Dragana Trifkovic narrated that the Serbian civilians were the target of Western-backed Croatian armed forces who carried out ethnic cleansing of Serbs who have lived for centuries in these territories, particularly during the infamous Flash and Storm military operations. Croatian forces received military assistance and training from US military officers. Meanwhile in Bosnia and Herzegovina Muslim forces also received military aid from the West.

"Over 200 000 Serbs were expelled from Kosovo and Metohija [during the Yugoslav Wars], and at the same time Serbs were accused for "genocide" against ethnic Albanians. Later on was found that the Albanian victims [killed at] Racak were not civilians but KLA [Kosovo Liberation Army] terrorists. It was used for starting the bombing of Serbia — true genocide when NATO threw more than 10 tons of uranium," the expert highlighted.

However, no one has been convicted for crimes against Serbs, ethnic cleansing and bombing of civilians by NATO, no one has been held responsible for the slaughter of Serbian women and children, and no one has paid for the material damage of more than $100 billion to Serbia. "Rather, a crime against the Serbs continues in the fanatic form," Dragana Trifkovic told Sputnik.

History Repeating

According to Trifkovic we can draw clear parallels between the demonization of the Serbs started in the 1990s and the current demonization of Russians in full accordance with the notorious Goebbels method "Tell a lie a hundred times and it becomes the truth".

The West has used the Yugoslavian scenario in Ukraine. Snipers on Maidan had done the same job as their counterparts did in Sarajevo many years ago. US private military companies flooded Ukraine and Washington is placing its advisors directly in the Ukrainian government. The Pentagon and NATO are training and arming the Ukrainian troops, while ethnic Russians and Russian-speakers have become the target of the Washington-backed Ukrainian military forces, the expert pointed out.
The West is turning a blind eye to the murder of the Donbass civilians by the Ukrainian armed forces and ultra-nationalist battalions as well as to the hideous Odessa massacre of May 2, 2014, just like it turned a blind eye to the genocide of Serbs.

For the US and the EU "these victims are just collateral damage in the way of achieving the objectives for the imperial West," Dragana Trifkovic noted, adding the West is still considering Serbs "a disturbing factor," which may potentially undermine the Western geostrategic plans in the Balkans.

"Today's events can be viewed through a specific paradigm and historical cycles which repeat themselves. For the international community, especially the Western public, it is important to find the full truth about the events in the former Yugoslavia, about who was involved in these wars, who was the victim and who was manipulated to fight for the interests of Washington. This also refers to the current conflict in Ukraine. A lie can last only as long as the force that defends the lie. Undoubtedly, one day the truth will come out," Director General of the Center for Geostrategic Studies Dragana Trifkovic concluded.

Lavrov Gets Biblical: God Will Judge Obama For What He Did to Syria

Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says Obama allowed Islamic State to operate largely unmolested in Syria

Retired war criminal
Retired war criminal

Paul Kaiser
According to Russia's Foreign Minister, only God can judge Obama for his crimes against the people of Syria.

In an interview published by the National Interest yesterday, Sergei Lavrov insisted that the U.S.-led "anti-terrorism" coalition in Syria "never touched" Islamic State oil convoys, which helped to finance the spread of terrorism in the region.

Lavrov also dismissed the idea that al-Nusra has broken off into "moderate" subsidiaries, and said the terrorist organization "already twice changed its name, but it never changed its sponsors who continue to pump money and whatever is necessary for fighting into this structure".
Finally, some honesty from a diplomat:
What I can attest to is that one year into the creation of this [U.S.-led] coalition, it was very sporadically using the air force to hit some ISIL positions. They never touched the caravans who were smuggling oil from Syria to Turkey and, in general, they were not really very active. This changed after we responded to the request of President Assad, who represents, by the way, a legitimate government member of the United Nations.
After we joined, President Vladimir Putin and President Barack Obama spoke in New York in September 2015, and President Putin clearly told him that we would be doing this and we were ready to coordinate, and they agreed to have these deconfliction discussions, which did not start soon actually, not through our fault.
But when we started working there the U.S.-led coalition became much more active. I don’t want to analyze the reason for this. I’m just saying before we moved there with our air force, the U.S. coalition was very rarely hitting ISIL positions and almost never hitting the positions of Jabhat al-Nusra, which many people believe has been spared just in case at some point they might be needed to topple the regime.
And this feeling, this suspicion, is still very much alive these days, when Jabhat al-Nusra already twice changed its name, but it never changed its sponsors who continue to pump money and whatever is necessary for fighting into this structure. And people know this.
I put myself in the shoes of those who were criticizing us for hitting wrong targets. You remember, there was so much criticism. So the deal we reached with Kerry, when none of us could strike unless the other supports, was solving this problem.
And the fact that the Pentagon just disavowed what Kerry did, and Obama could not overrule the Pentagon, meant for me only one thing: that he, the president of the United States, Barack Obama, was motivated by the desire to have some revenge on Russia, for whatever reason and for whatever situation, rather than to capitalize over the deal reached between John Kerry and us, to make the war against terror much more efficient in Syria. But let God judge him.
Washington's high tolerance for ISIS oil convoys and head-choppers is well documented. Syrian President Bashar Assad has repeatedly described the U.S.-led coalition's "efforts" in Syria as "cosmetic".
That's a very nice way of saying that they occasionally bombed a sand dune while Islamic State drove cheap, delicious oil across the border into Turkey.

In conclusion: Obama is a blood-soaked weasel. (We hope there's a Hague in hell that actually enforces international law.)
Vladimir Putin answers the big question on influencing the US election (VIDEO)

Vladimir Putin has categorically stated that Russia had nothing to do with the outcome of the US election.
Vladimir Putin has directly answered the big question. Appearing at a panel hosted by CNBC, Putin referenced the infamous George H.W. Bush line when he asked his audience to read his lips when promising no new taxes.

Putin’s assurance that Russia did not meddle in the US election will almost certainly not change the tune of those who think otherwise.

The entire Russiagate fiasco in the United States is less about objective analysis on US-Russian relations, than it is an internal Washington power-play using a tired old accusation from the 1950s.  It’s got all the incredulity of a McCarthyite witch hunt combined with not so subtle racism about the nature of Russian people, rather than the old ideological ‘battles’ of the Cold War.

Putin summed up the American power-play in the following way:
“We said on numerous occasions and I reiterate that we are confident … And know for sure that opinion polls in the Unites States show that very many people are … friendly towards the Russian Federation and I’d like to tell these people that we perceive and regard the United States as a great power with which we want to establish good partnership relations.
All those things are fictional, illusory and provocations, lies. All these are used for domestic American political agendas. The anti-Russian card is played by different political forces inside the United States to trade on that and consolidate their positions inside”.
The mainstream media are indeed operating under the guise of illusions rather than reality. One needn’t have a positive or even a neutral opinion of Russia to realise this.

It is a political false flag designed to obfuscate responsibility from the real issues, namely that Donald Trump’s opponents dislike the US President’s style but they cannot offer any substantive programme to offer as a viable alternative for increasingly alienated voters.

Since the end of the Cold War, many American voters have been increasingly alienated from the powers that be. But whereas in previous elections, this expressed itself in the form of voter apathy, Donald Trump’s political movement has galvanised these voters to express their alienation in the form of activism, speaking out on social media and ultimately voting for the self-styled anti-establishment candidate, Donald Trump.

It’s rather sad that when the electorate stayed at home, few politicians cared about their disillusionment. Now that they have voted, Washington seems to be in the grips of a mad scramble to assign blame for a failure of a political system that long predated the arrival of Donald Trump the politician.

Far from not being able to read Vladimir Putin’s lips, they cannot even hear the voices of their own citizens. Their citizens are angry with their own leaders. Their views on Russia range from indifference to informed respect.

Donetsk Defense TV News Report, 03/30/2017

As a result of Ukrainian forces night shellings, a woman born in 1928 was injured in Donetsk city. She has been hospitalized. Besides, the general educational school Num. 87 was shelled as well.

The Petrovsky district of Donetsk was intensively shelled. According to the DPR defense establishments, about 10 residential house-buildings were destroyed.

According to the preliminary information, one civilian was injured. The gas pipe line was damaged in the west of the Petrovsky district as well. Repair teams managed to localize gas leak and prevent damages. Gas men promise to resume gas supply within 24 hours. As a result of shellings, there were damaged power lines as well.

The Donetsk Filtering Station and Yasnoye locality near Dockuchayevsk were left without electricity.
"The Filtering Station is not working now. Due to the fact that there is no power supply. According to the preliminary data, the shell may have hit the electrical substation that feeds this station," said Eduard Basurin, the Vice Commander of the DPR People's Militia on Thursday.
Altogether, over the past 24 hours there were registered about 70 occasions of ceasefire violations by the enemy. Ukraine military shelled almost all the front-line cities and localities of the DPR.

US European Commander demanding more troops to fight Russia

To fight a land war with Russia, the head of America’s European Military Command, Curtis Scaparrotti, told the House Armed Services Committee that he needs a larger combat force, including an armored division and more warships. New US bases for growing deployment of troops in Europe are already prepared.

“We need a greater force there,” Scaparrotti insisted, saying that more armored and mechanized brigades are needed in Europe along with offer appropriate artillery and air defense for a full-scale war with Russia. He also sought more anti-submarine capability.

When asked why the US is suddenly needing so much additional military force in Europe, Scaparrotti cited Russia’s annexation of crimea, insisting it proved Russia is “a competitor” to the United States in Eastern Europe, and that the US needs more forces there to “prevent” war.

General Scaparrotti also made a demand, that the United States of America must supply lethal arms to Ukraine. “I personally believe that we need to consider lethal defensive weapons for Ukraine,” Scaparrotti said.

Apart from it, last week Ukraine’s Defense Ministry published photos from the latest training exercises in the Lvov region, where Ukrainian servicemen are being trained up to NATO standards by instructors from the United States, Canada, Poland and Lithuania.

'No' to independent Srpska - EU Army preparing intervention in Bosnia

Recently boosted new EU Army (EUFOR) is preparing for a military intervention in Bosnia if violence is resumed and the Republic Srpska takes steps towards independence. Western leaders have given warnings and accused Russia of having caused the regional problems, which Kremlin denies.

European Union military forces warned Bosnian leaders on Tuesday, that it was prepared to intervene at short notice with larger EU-forces if instability kept rising in the region.

"A lot has been achieved but a lot can be lost again," Major General Anton Waldner said at a ceremony in the Bosnian capital Sarajevo marking his takeover of the command of EUFOR, which has 800 troops deployed in Bosnia.
"There is still an executive mandate which allows significant reinforcement at short notice of (EUFOR). I will not hesitate to call (on) these reserve forces if needed. You, political leaders, have the most powerful key in your hands," Waldner said.
EUFOR's new operations chief, General James Everard, said there were "external influences" at play in the wider Western Balkans region, and in Bosnia, (that) have the potential to challenge progress. For its part, NATO had said that in case of any violent flare-up in Bosnia, it could quickly deploy military assets, mainly from Italy and Germany.

Western leaders have accused Russia of seeking to exploit diminishing EU leverage in the Balkans by manipulating political events in the region. Russia denies such allegations.

The Republic Srpska government, ruling the ethnic Serb-dominated region, has been warning the central Bosnian government against moves against their autonomy, saying that they intend to organize a secession referendum as soon as 2018.

The secession move centers primarily around questions about the judiciary, with the national Constitutional Court countermanding rulings from the autonomous region’s judiciary. Austrian diplomat Valentin Inzko has warned any secession attempt would lead to international intervention, and that the world would never accept an independent Srpska.

""Let me get this straight.
The people of Crimea had no right to self-determination, but the Kurds can be ''granted'' territory by the United States of SYRIA?
How does the US have the right to grant land in another country?" Are they GOD?

According to the documents at our disposal, the U.S. authorities and the Syrian Kurds reached an agreement past week on the boundaries of the Kurdish autonomy in the territory of Syria, which had been guaranteed to Kurds in case of capturing Raqqa and Al-Tabqah (34 miles to the West of Raqqa). This confirms the reports about the U.S. plans to divide Syria.

In addition, Washington has already defined the boundaries of the new state of the Great Kurdistan on the territory of Syria and Iraq. It is to be created after ISIS defeat and the final collapse of Syrian Arab Republic. According to the U.S. military, Kurds remain the only force capable of defeating ISIS.

In order to strengthen its positions the new U.S. administration announced the upcoming liberation of the so-called ISIS capital, Raqqa. To grease the wheels the Americans resorted to money, their weapon of choice. They bribe ISIS field commanders and increase payments to YPG and FSA units.

The U.S. government intends to capture Raqqa by April and to eliminate ISIS in Syria and Iraq this summer. The implementation of these plans requires making concessions to Kurds. This is why the U.S. promises them an independent state in case of victory.

Court of London to Ukraine: Pay! Russia wins summary judgment over 3 billion dollar debt

Fort Russ
March 29, 2017 - Fort Russ News -, translated by Tom Winter -
The Finance Ministry has announced the victory of Russia in the dispute over Ukraine's $ 3 billion debt.

The Finance Ministry reports that the Court of London has ordered Ukraine to return $ 3 billion, plus interest, on bonds bought by Russia. Earlier it was reported that the court would consider the claim in an accelerated manner.

The High Court of London on March 29, 2017, in an accelerated manner (summary judgment), adopted a decision obliging Ukraine to pay $ 3 billion to pay off the Russian Eurobonds purchased in 2013, the Russian Finance Ministry said. In addition, according to the agency, Ukraine is obliged to pay Russia interest on these bonds.

"In the judgment, the Court pointed out that, given that it is a requirement to fulfill obligations on a debt instrument, the defendant does not have any arguments to be considered in the Court in favor of not recognizing the validity of this claim," the Finance Ministry said.

The agency stressed that the decision that obliges Ukraine to repay the debt on Eurobonds in full is final and that no additional hearings on this matter in the High Court of London are expected. Yet the Ukrainian side intends to challenge the decision of the High Court of London in the Court of Appeals of London.

Russia acquired Eurobonds of Ukraine at the expense of the National Wealth Fund in December 2013. The debt was due to be repaid in two years, but in December 2015, the new Ukrainian authorities refused to return both the $ 3 billion debt itself and the last tranche of interest amounting to $ 75 million. After numerous attempts to resolve the issue out of court, Russia initiated a trial in London.

Earlier on Wednesday it became known that the High Court of London had denied Ukraine a full-scale consideration of the dispute with Russia about unpaid $ 3 billion, rejecting Kiev's arguments that the case should be viewed in a broad economic and geopolitical context.

It was then reported that the British judge granted the Russian defense's petition for an expedited consideration of the claim (summary judgment).

Lavrov Responds to US Decision to Block Advance of Syrian Army

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov commented on a U.S.-led operation that has blocked the Syrian Army's advance on Raqqa

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov commented on Monday about the U.S.-led operation to block the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) from marching on the Islamic State stronghold of Raqqa.

Responding to a journalist's question about the development, Lavrov stated that Russia supports any international efforts to combat Islamic State, but warned the U.S. "to fight terror rather than gain geopolitical advantages in Syria":
[N]umerous uninvited players [are in Syria]: the US-led air force coalition, Turkish servicemen, and commandos from the United States and a number of European countries. All of this creates a rather motley picture, but we are confident (and have advocated this for a long time) that the main criterion should be our common concern in the fight against terrorism.
So far, coordination leaves much to be desired. We have reason to believe that our partners, including the Americans, are beginning to realise the need for remedying this situation. Let us hope that all of us will be driven by the well-understood priority to fight terror rather than gain geopolitical advantages in Syria.

Lavrov seems to be keeping his cards close to his chest, but it's clear that he's less than thrilled about Washington's posturing around Raqqa. It could be as simple as a "lack of coordination" — but let's be honest: There's very likely a lot more at play here. Any attempt by Washington to prevent Syrian forces from liberating their own country from Islamic State should be seen as extremely worrying.

According to a trusted Syria expert, preventing the SAA from taking Raqqa signals that Washington is quietly preparing to "Balkanize" Syria — an analysis that we agree with.

Below is the journalist's full question, with Lavrov's answer:

Question: US commandos and Kurdish forces are involved in an operation to seize important dams and an electric power station on the Euphrates River in Syria’s Raqqa Province. They sustained losses and failed to capture the biggest dam on the Euphrates, but they managed to seize a less important dam at Tabqa. What is Moscow’s attitude to this joint Kurdish-US operation in northern Syria? How does this operation tally with the aims set in Geneva?

Sergey Lavrov: Everything that helps to enhance the efficiency of the fight against terrorists, primarily ISIS, Jabhat al-Nusra and other terrorist groups recognised as such by the UN Security Council, is in full conformity with the UN Security Council resolutions. This meets our common interests, which consist in eradicating the terrorist threat in Syria and Iraq, in the whole of that region, and all over the world.

Numerous participants in combat operations are present on the ground in Syria and in the air over Syria, including Syrians themselves – the army of the Syrian Arab Republic, the opposition, the Syrian militia army cooperating with the Government army, the Kurdish militia that wants to defend its rights in Kurdish-populated areas – Russia’s Aerospace Forces, Russian military police, and Russian experts invited by the Syrian Government to help them to fight terrorism. There are also Syria-invited Iranian forces, Hezbollah, as well as numerous uninvited players: the US-led air force coalition, Turkish servicemen, and commandos from the United States and a number of European countries. All of this creates a rather motley picture, but we are confident (and have advocated this for a long time) that the main criterion should be our common concern in the fight against terrorism.

Addressing the UN General Assembly in September 2015, President Vladimir Putin suggested forming a united universal international antiterrorist front. Today this principle is as relevant as never before in Syria. To reiterate: We want both those invited by the legitimate Syrian Government and those who are in Syria without its invitation but have declared that their aim is fighting terrorism to start coordinating their actions. This includes coordination with the Syrian Government.

We tried to develop this approach during the Obama administration, with Secretary of State John Kerry; we invited military experts and reconnaissance experts. We came to terms on how to separate in practice the patriotic armed opposition from terrorist forces. Regrettably, the United States was unable to implement the agreement reached with the consent of President Vladimir Putin and President Barack Obama. And now we have what we have.

Again we have to go back to this principle. We are trying to help to establish this cooperation in Astana; jointly with our Turkish and Iranian partners we are helping to develop practical approaches to separating the normal opposition from terrorists and bandits. We see through this prism the developments involving the Kurdish forces and the American commandos as well as the developments related to the liberation of approaches to the terrorist capital of Syria, Raqqa. So far, coordination leaves much to be desired. We have reason to believe that our partners, including the Americans, are beginning to realise the need for remedying this situation. Let us hope that all of us will be driven by the well-understood priority to fight terror rather than gain geopolitical advantages in Syria.
