"Donbass people never kneel!" - Alexander Zakharchenko at Victory Parade

On Tuesday, May 9, the Head of the Donetsk People's Republic, the Commander-in-Chief of the DPR Army Alexander Zakharchenko reviewed a military parade dedicated to the 72nd anniversary of the Great Victory.

The DPR Defense Minister, Vladimir Kononov, and Deputy Prime Ministers Dmitry Trapeznikov and Alexander Timofeyev were at the podium together with the Commander-in-Chief.

Opening the parade, the Head of the DPR congratulated all those present on the anniversary of the victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War.
“Comrades, soldiers! Citizens of the Donetsk People's Republic! Donetsk residents and guests of the capital! I congratulate you on the 72nd anniversary of the Great Victory of the Soviet people over the German fascist invaders. 72 years ago, our people inflicted a crushing defeat on fascism, the greatest evil in the history of mankind.
Our grandfathers and great-grandfathers courageously and selflessly defended our Great Motherland. That war claimed millions of lives! Today's holiday is a day of remembrance of our ancestors’ unfadable act of courage, this is the glorifying of our weapons’ might and power. But, along with that, this is a day mourning for the fallen.
Today, thousands of residents of the Donetsk People's Republic have come to the parade to join the Immortal Regiment procession. Following the military equipment and our armed forces’ elite along the central street of the capital, you will carry portraits of heroes who fought bravely for the freedom of our Motherland, both at that distant war and at the one we still have to win.
Let us observe a minute of silence in memory of all the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of our Motherland. Our land is being all over again torn apart by war. Again, the best of its sons defend their Motherland from the fascist plague! Today's parade in honour of the Great Victory is a demonstration of our power, our freedom, our inflexibility!
You are warriors! You are the winners! Our people never kneel! Our cause is just, victory will be ours, the enemy will be defeated! Hooray, comrades!”
All the combatant arms of the DPR Army participated in this year’s festive parade. The column was led by the Great Patriotic War equipment: a rocket barrage weapon Katyusha and a ‘vehicle-soldier’, the legendary Polutorka (thirty-hundred-weight lorry) with a 76-mm cannon, alongside the no less legendary tank T-34.

Modern tanks T-72 and T-64, ‘veterans’ of the battles for the Donetsk airport and Debaltsevo, Novoazovsk and Shakhtyorsk, Ilovaisk and Amvrosiyevka, followed the historical equipment. In battles they were supported by infantry fighting vehicles with motorized rifles and armoured personnel carriers, and at the parade they moved together, as well as on the Donbass battlefields.

The DPR ‘gods of war’ were represented by self-propelled artillery mounts Akatsiya, towed howitzers and mortars, and multiple launch rocket systems Grad. Anti-aircraft missile systems of army air defense and quick-fire automatic cannons in the back of Ural trucks brought up the rear.

An endless flow of participants of the Immortal Regiment action, led by the Head of the Republic, followed the military equipment and joint ceremonial detachments along the central street of the capital of the Donetsk People's Republic. The column with photos of the Great Patriotic War heroes, soldiers-internationalists and the DPR defenders was several kilometres long.

The Immortal Regiment procession marched across the entire city-centre to the monument "To Your Liberators, Donbass", where a festive meeting took place.
